National Park Service: Kansas

In the 10+. years that I worked with Outside the Box LLC, I wrote seven administrative histories of National Park System units, all but one of them for the Midwest Regional Office. This work brought me to the midwest many times, and much of my travel was in or through Kansas where I wrote the administrative histories of Brown v. Board of Education National Historic Site in Topeka, Nicodemus National Historic Site in Nicodemus, and Fort Larned National Historic Site (which I had to leave incomplete when the contract was cancelled in March 2025). I found it to be a beautiful state, and I regularly brought my 4x5 camera with me for photographs at the sites where I was working and other places that caught my eye. This portfolio contains a selection my photos from Kansas, all on 4x5 black and white film.
